Beating the Drum for Protector

Matt Lowe
August 2, 2019

Have you ever been to an event where the host beats on a giant drum to signal that something great is about to begin? I’ve been to numerous sporting events that start the game with a celebrity guest or some other person of interest leading the crowd in a loud cheer as they pound a gigantic drum. Here at Equinox, we’re not known for being terribly loud or for having a giant drum, but this is my signal to everyone to get ready for this year’s Protector Users Group Meeting (PUGM)!

It may seem early to be writing about the Protector Users Group Meeting, but it is right around the corner. Each fall for more than 20 years, Equinox hosts its annual meeting to help Protector users better understand not only the application itself but also the latest trends in toll fraud and to connect with an ever-growing community of telecom experts.

Because the threat of toll-fraud is a real concern for telecom carriers, PUGM is an opportunity to get back in the classroom to learn the best tips and tricks. If you’ve ever felt like saying, “HELP!” when using the application or are new to Protector, Equinox is hosting a webinar on August 26th entitled, “Protector 101.” This introductory level session includes a high-level overview of Protector's capabilities and acquaints you with basic Protector concepts, terms, and interface features via a guided system walk through. In other words, Christi will hold your hand through this introductory exposition to lay a good foundation for anyone who is attending PUGM for the first time or is new to using Protector. Watch your inbox for details next week.

We also benefit greatly from everyone who participates in the meeting. It gives us a glimpse into a day in the life of a fraud analyst—a perspective we live to support but can’t know first-hand. Let it be known that this event is more than just learning. We like to have fun too! Tuesday night we’ll head over to a roof-top bar called Nashville Underground. I realize calling something “underground” that is a roof-top bar is as confusing as an octopus having a garden, but we’ll have drinks, games, and a “magical” time!

As summer draws to a close and walks through strawberry fields are replaced with hayrides and autumn leaves, let it be a reminder of a time to come together for the annual PUGM. The event begins Monday September 30th at noon and concludes Wednesday October 2nd with a barbecue lunch at Martin’s, which is becoming as much a tradition as the event itself. Register now to secure your spot; I’ll see you next month!
