2018: Much to be Grateful For

By David West
January 24, 2019

I’m not a big partier so I usually mark the end of the year with family and occasionally a small group of close friends. This year, while I was with family on New Year’s Eve, I was also with several hundred frustrated travelers trying to get home on a flight that had been delayed 9 hours.

As the hours ticked by and repeated alerts from the airline further postponed our departure, it become clear that my teenage daughters’ plans for the evening were in jeopardy as my lovely wife grew tired of the charms of the concourse.

I was more sanguine about the delay. Having spent many hours in airports, if I’m warm with access to food, electricity, and Wi-Fi, I’m pretty content. In this case, the delay had an unexpected benefit: since I wasn’t mid-air, I didn’t have to wait to learn that contracts had been signed by two new customers.

Perhaps buoyed by this, I found myself spending some time reflecting on all that I had to be grateful for (beyond outlets and internet access).

By every measure, 2018 was a good year for the Equinox family.

We celebrated several big work anniversaries among our staff this year. Ernest Howell (support) and Christi Vanoye (implementation and training) each celebrated their 20th anniversary last year. Kevin Cantrell (support) and Robert Hunter (development) marked 10 years at Equinox. Outside of the office, there were graduations, weddings, new grandchildren, and milestone birthdays celebrated in many of our households.

We had lots of fun at our 20th Protector User Group Meeting and celebrated the return of the TeleLink User Group Meeting. Note that both will be back in 2019; dates have already been set, so please plan to join us!

We continued a multi-year trend of sales growth, with the highest total revenue in company history. Fueling this growth were new customers as well current customers who updated existing implementations and deployed new solutions. Including:

I wrote a similar posting two years ago—and the words I used in closing it are just as true and relevant today. I appreciate the many, many good friends and fine people that I have the privilege of working with. If you’ve read this far, then you can certainly count yourself among them. If you find yourself similarly blessed, pass along a little good karma today in the form of an unprovoked smile, a door held for a stranger, or an extra-long hug for your kids. Amidst what seems to be growing uncertainty and fear here in the states and around the globe, it’s clear the world is far from perfect, and yet, we have so much to be grateful for.

From all of us at Equinox, we wish you a wonderfully happy, peaceful, and prosperous new year!
