BEK Selects Automated Fraud Management Solution

DEPLOYS PROTECTOR FROM EQUINOX INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Nashville, TN July 2, 2013 — Nashville-based Equinox Information Systems reports that BEK Communications Cooperative (BEK) has licensed and installed the Protector fraud management system (FMS) to help combat the growing problem of international toll fraud. BEK is an ILEC, providing voice, data, and video services to south central North Dakota as well as rural Bismarck. Protector is an automated FMS that monitors call and data usage records for real-time fraud detection, currently processing hundreds of millions of call records per day for its customers.

Protector provides a proactive approach to distinguishing communications fraud from legitimate usage to deal with even the newest fraud schemes. Rather than hardcoding or targeting a specific fraud type or method, Protector employs dynamic usage profiling and other proprietary monitoring metrics to identify suspicious activity regardless of the manner in which unauthorized access was gained. Protector instantly notifies you when suspicious activity occurs and uses a weighted scoring algorithm to determine the fraud risk of each violation. Using this approach, Protector has helped customers save literally hundreds of millions of dollars in averted fraud losses.

“We needed a dedicated fraud management solution, particularly to monitor international calls from our Broadsoft switch,” noted James Noble, VoIP Engineer at BEK. “Having used this system previously at another company, I knew from firsthand experience that Protector was the right tool for this job.”

According to Equinox Executive Vice President, David West, “Protector is a market-proven solution, as evidenced by this story...successful results and positive return on investment achieved with Protector at another company make it the tool of choice for BEK. We confidently stand behind Protector's ability to quickly and accurately detect fraud, and it's rewarding to know our customers feel the same way!”
